Abstract

The report presents the activities carried out during the ENCODE Workshop 'AI and Ancient Writing Cultures' (Bologna, 23-27 January 2023), where participants were guided by experts in NLP, Data Visualisation and automatic annotation training on ancient texts (papyri, manuscripts and inscriptions).It takes into account also the results of the seventh ENCODE conference 'Artificial Intelligence and Ancient Writing Cultures' (Bologna, 26 January 2023) focused on applications of Artificial Intelligence in different disciplines related to ancient writings, presenting existing projects, future developments and technical challenges.
