Abstract
The present repository contains the data pertaining to the design of experiment (DoE) guided optimization of the cascade synthesis of γ-valerolactone (GVL) from biomass-derived furfuryl alcohol (FAL). The employed catalyst are Aquivion/zirconia spray freeze-dried composites, the preparation of which is discussed [elsewhere](https://doi.org/10.1002/cssc.202301683), along with details on the reaction and its mechanism. A faced central composite design was built to explore the effect of five variables: reaction temperature, reaction time, substrate concentration, catalyst amount and catalyst composition. For each test, the GVL selectivity and productivity were recorded and employed as responses, along with a number of environmental impact indicators, deriving from Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The inclusion of responses both from the catalytic testing and from LCA enables an integrated framework capable of providing guidance towards the optimization of multiple metrics.
