Abstract
In this work, a photocurable vitrimer based on dynamic imine bonds and DNA was developed. DNA was used as a sustainable intumescent flame-retardant additive and it was incorporated at 10% and 20% w/w with respect to the weight of the resin. The resulting coatings were investigated in terms of morphology, thermomechanical properties, flame retardant performance, healing capability, and chemical recyclability.
Three systems were investigated: a pristine vitrimer without DNA (labelled DOM-MVL); a vitrimer containing 10% w/w of DNA (DOM-MVL+10%DNA); a vitrimer containing 20% w/w of DNA (DOM-MVL+20%DNA).
The dataset includes the following characterization data:
Attenuated Total Reflectance - Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy: to confirm the chemical structure of the samples.
Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA): to characterize the original samples and those obtained after the chemical recycling.
Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC): to assess the thermal transitions of the samples
Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA): to investigate the storage modulus at room temperature and the glass transition temperature of the three systems.
Cone calorimetry and pyrolysis-combustion flow calorimetry were performed as forced-combustion analysis to investigate the fire-behavior of the coatings. Moreover, pyrolysis-combustion flow calorimetry was performed on all the original samples and on DOM-MVL and DOM-MVL+20%DNA after the chemical recycling.
This comprehensive dataset supports the findings presented in the manuscript and provides detailed insights into the characterization and recyclability of the proposed systems.
