Abstract
The ten essays in this collected volume map the manner in which, over the past decade, the scholarly focus in journalism studies has moved from a concern with economic “value” (what is the business model for news?) to political and cultural “values” (how can journalism best support a liberal and democratic society?) They discuss #blacklivesmatter, the impact of news metrics, global fact-checking summits as value building activities, and the values of disruption and “hope.” The collection concludes with interviews with four prominent journalism scholars: Candis Calison, Mary-Lynn Young, Michael Schudson, and Todd Gitlin.
