Abstract
In South Italy and in Sicily the discovery of groups of statuettes of female players in the sacred areas dedicated to the female deities, seems related to the female festivals and with the music and dance performed during the wedding rites. The terracottas suggest the importance of particular musical instruments and of the dance for the rites of passage of the girls from the status of parthenos to the gyné.
