Abstract

This dataset presents both morphological and functional data of testes collected from 16 male pigs of hy-brid European breeds, neutered or/euthanized at different ages. The focus of the investigations was the evolution of the blood-testis barrier (BTB) throughout pigs’ life, assessed by means of histological and molecular methodologies. Testicular testosterone concentrations and metalloproteinases activity were quantified, alongside with genomic and proteomic evaluation of tight-junctions’ markers. The latter were also assessed by means of immunostaining.
