Abstract
TRANSLATING DIACHRONY. THE CASE OF AFANASIJ FET • Тhis paper presents a brief analysis of how the poetry of the nineteenth-century author
Afanasij Fet has been transferred into Italian, considering three books of his that appeared almost
simultaneously in 2012. From the analysis it emerges that all three editors of the books
(Alessandro Niero, Pia Dusi, and Stefano Garzonio) elaborated their translations adopting, to
varying degrees, strategies of archaization. These strategies can be traced back to three typologies:
(i) physiological and personal; (ii) deliberate and conscious; (iii) induced and inadvertent.
These typologies take into account various factors such as the will to mark in the target language
that Fet belongs to nineteenth century, the personal taste of the translators, the use of metre
and/or rhyme in their versions and some particularities of the editions.
